Trash

Deleting a note, getting it back, and removing it for good.

Deleting a note in MemNote does not destroy it. It goes to Trash, where it waits until you decide.

Trash is a view of its own — Trash near the bottom of the desktop rail, or in the phone drawer.

Deleting a note

Swipe a note sideways in the note list. A red panel with a trash icon appears behind it; complete the swipe and the note is gone from the list.

There is no confirmation and no undo prompt, because nothing irreversible has happened — the note is in Trash.

Restoring

Open Trash and pick the note. On desktop you get a list on the left and the note on the right; on a phone, tapping a note opens it.

Press Restore — it is a button in the detail pane, and also on the right-click / long-press menu in the list. MemNote confirms with Note restored and the note returns to your list.

Restoring does not touch the note’s updated time, so a note you rescued does not jump to the top of a list sorted by Date Updated.

Deleting forever

Delete Forever — also in both the detail pane and the context menu — is the irreversible one. It asks Delete Forever? and warns that the note will be permanently removed from all your devices.

This really is permanent. The note is destroyed locally and a tombstone syncs to your other devices so they remove their copies too. It is not recoverable, and it is not in version history afterwards.

Trash does not empty itself

MemNote does not purge Trash on a schedule. Notes stay there until you restore them or delete them forever, however long that takes.

Finding things in Trash

Trash has its own search field, using the same search syntax as the note list — useful when you are looking for one note among a lot of deleted ones. Deleted notes keep their place, device, and time information, and the detail pane shows it.

Deletes from an assistant or the API

When an AI assistant or the REST API deletes a note, it does exactly what a swipe does: the note goes to Trash and can be restored. Nothing outside the app can delete a note permanently.
