Timeline

Browse your notes in the order you wrote them, by day on a phone or on a zoomable time axis on desktop.

Timeline arranges your notes by when they were created. It is for the times you remember roughly when something happened but not what you called it.

Reach it from Timeline in the desktop rail or the phone drawer.

Note that the timeline always orders by created time, whatever sort you have chosen for the note list.

On a phone or a narrow window

A vertical list, newest first, grouped by day. Each day gets a sticky header — Today, or the full date — that stays put while you scroll through that day’s notes.

Notes hang off a vertical rail, each with a coloured dot. The dot takes the colour of the note’s first tag, so a well-tagged timeline reads as bands of colour and you can spot a run of work notes without reading a word. Untagged notes get a neutral dot.

On a desktop-sized window

A horizontal time axis, laid out to scale — a gap of a month looks like a month. Notes are staggered into lanes so they do not overlap, and dense stretches collapse into dots until you zoom in.

  • Scroll to zoom, centred on your pointer.
  • The zoom buttons in the corner do the same in steps, and the pill beside them tells you the granularity you are currently looking at.
  • The view fits itself to your notes on first open, and remembers where you panned to while the app is running.

What a timeline entry shows

The title, then one line of metadata: tag chips, the platform the note was written on, and its date. Place names are left off here — the timeline is about when, and the map is about where.

Filtering the timeline

The timeline has no filters of its own; it uses the ones you have set in the search box and filter drawer. Filter to a tag and the timeline shows just that thread through your history.

If nothing matches, you get No notes found.
